Welcome:Bienvenidos
This
exhibit is an "art spark" generated by a community of artists
living around the world. Every week, we meet at this virtual studio/gallery
to share work and the most important thing on our minds.

the view from my yoga mat
The most important thing on my mind is the encouragement
of everybody I've been talking with this week. Lot's of opportunities
to cry the blues and be heard; lots of good suggestions; and getting corroboration
with some of my ideas.
I was speaking with Sky Pape this week about us having both
taken similar pictures of the play of shadows on Richard Serra's sculptures
at Dia Beacon. More second generation art--which I had been talking with
PP about earlier and James about before that. It's encouraging
to be in good company... |

Sometimes, even the light at the end of the tunnel, looks

I know the quote that follows is not a perfect match with the image -
but I have always loved it, and the tight rope gives me a pretext to share
it:
"We all admire the spangled acrobat
with classical grace meticulously walking his tight rope in the talcum
light; but how much rarer art there is in the sagging rope expert wearing
scarecrow clothes and impersonating a grotesque drunk! I should know."

Window Dressing
I always felt there was something a bit morbid about mannequins.
Then I noticed the body on the floor. |

Connect The Dots
Why did the RNC come to New York City? The demonstrations
will be huge. Why didn't it go to Columbus Ohio, I'm sure they could use
the business and they're a swing state ... maybe because they're a swing
state, the republicans didn't want to blow it. And that Terese sure raised
the bar for Laura. |

a weekly mixture of horse sense and common sense about working with
people
in this issue:
you can't lead by pushing..............1
the importance of praise...............7
what people value most in a boss*.....16
how to pick good people...............21
*"unfortunately, sometimes leaders aren't
all that concerned about the welfare of their people, but want only to
use and manipulate them. no matter how glib such people are, or how clever
as amateur psychologists, their motives will show through. they're bound
to."

Lightning happens and is emptiness.

Blue Purse with Legs
I have been thinking about the following:
The appropriate uses of power, and how power seems to be so easily abused
and perverted.
The connections between sexuality, power and creativity.
The movie "Dogville", and its comments on humanity's proclivity
to exploit weakness or vulnerability. Not to mention its comments
on power.
Anthony Gonzales' mention of John Cage's comment that "Art is criminal
action."
The wonder and the absolute necessity of creative expression without apology.
